When Babies Cry...

Why is it you can have the TV on all day long, crank the stereo in the car, spend hours on the internet surfing iTunes or You Tube, crane your neck to overhear the conversations of others in a store or in the office, make a few phone calls on your cell phone just to hear the voice of a loved one...essentially bombarding yourself willingly with one sound or another and raising the volume all day long...

yet the sound of an infant crying for more than 5 minutes can be mentally and emotionally exhausting?

I really wish I knew what he wanted right now. I've gone through the list...hungry, wet, cold, gassy, lonely...nothing is working.

I've had a day...the culiminating point being my 'lunch' at Long John Silvers. I had my purse and baby bag slung over one shoulder, holding the car carrier in that arm, and my tray in the other. I thought I was being the perfect pack mule until I ever so slightly bumped into a chair. A bump hardly registerable, yet enough to send my orange soda teetering and finally toppling over and ALL OVER the floor. As I watched it tumble, believe it or not I actually had the thought as it reached midpoint to the floor...perhaps that flimsy plastic lid will actually stay on that lousy paper cup and the soda won't explode...I can simply pick it up.

CRASH. SPLATTER.

And then another actual thought...What do you mean it didn't just 'bounce' on the floor and I catch it on the rebound?? That IS what was SUPPOSED to happen, no?

Uh...ma'am...clean up in aisle two. Sorry.
