Water, Water Everywhere...

So, only 8 days into our lease at the condo we're staying at while our house is being built we managed to create our own worse nightmare. We moved the washer and dryer yesterday and my husband turned on the water after hooking up the washer to make sure there were no leaks. We left the apartment forgetting to turn it off - my husband sort of obsessing about it - and we even were 'joking' about the possibilities over lunch back at house with a friend of ours in between runs.

I stayed back at the house with our daughter while my friend and husband made another run over to the apartment.

I get THE CALL.

"Our worst fear has come true."

"What?"

"The hose on the washer blew. There's a hole in it and we've flooded the apartment."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

There was about an inch of water in the actual laundry room, and the rug in about half the apartment was SOAKED. I mean soping, squishy, pools-of-water, SOAKED.

We now own a shop vac and we've probably pulled about 30 gallons of water out of the place. We now own two more fans, and might end up owning two more when this is said and done.

No telling what this is gonna cost us when all is said and done. I'm just PRAYING that the carpet recovers. Fortunately, we're in a basement condo, it was only tap water, and we started working on it as soon as we could. However, this could mean we don't get our security deposit back and do get an additional bill in the mail at a future date -- never mind this month's water bill and the trip to Home Depot. OUCH.

This was so catastrophic I couldn't even get mad. It's only worthy of head-in-hands, looking up to the heavens - laughter. One must wonder if GOD chose to blow the hose at the exact moment that were sitting on our deck laughing about having a 'water closet.'

Oh, reeealllly? Ha Ha...not so funny in reality is it mere mortals?

No, GOD, it really isn't. Thanks for the lesson.
